There are more than 60 auto brands currently present in Australia. More are coming every year, and each one has unique warranty periods and terms.

Because it’s difficult to figure out exactly what each brand does and doesn’t offer, we’ve compiled a list of important information about the aftersales provisions provided, and we’ll update it continuously as details change.

This is intended to provide information on what the average buyer can expect from each brand in terms of their standard warranties. Caveats and disclaimers explained within each section where possible or necessary.

We’ve also provided links to the warranty information page on each brand’s website where possible.

Australia’s longest new-vehicle warranty is currently offered by Nissan – 10 years or 300,000km if scheduled servicing takes place at an official Nissan dealer

NOTE: The term “commercial use” used throughout this article generally refers to use cases including but not limited to businesses, self-drive hire, ride-sharing, or driving schools – unless otherwise specified.

As of September 1, 2025, Hyundai cars and SUVs are backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, which is also available for new vehicles delivered and registered after June 1, 2025.

However, the existing five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty will remain the Korean brand’s standard aftersales offering, with the extra two years of coverage only applicable to owners who complete scheduled servicing on time within Hyundai’s network.

Corrosion, paint and infotainment systems are included in this warranty, while high-voltage batteries (if applicable) continue to be covered by Hyundai’s existing eight-year, 160,000km warranty.

The inclusion of paint within the standard vehicle warranty is an improvement over the previous offering, in which this was covered only for three years or 100,000km.

The extended coverage covers only privately registered vehicles, and excludes any passenger car used for rideshare, business or rental purposes. The Staria Load commercial van is also excluded from the seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty offer.

McLaren offers an extended service contract in Australia, which covers “most factory-fitted components for mechanical and electrical failure” until the vehicle is 15 years old as long as it has travelled less than 121,000km.

It can be activated at any time once an owner has had their car for 90 days, and can be purchased in one or two-year increments regardless of whether a vehicle is new or pre-owned.

Mercedes-Benz’s new vehicle warranty is shortened to five years or 200,000km if a vehicle is used for commercial purposes, or 250,000km for V-Class models.

Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle warranties are, however, slightly different. Warranty information is detailed below:

    • Mercedes-Benz Vito, Vito Tourer and Sprinter: 5 years or 250,000km
    • Mercedes-Benz eVito and eVito Tourer: 5 years or 250,000km

Mercedes-Benz 12V batteries are covered, though warranty periods differ depending on vehicle and between private and commercial use.

The Mercedes-Benz Certified warranty program also covers pre-owned vehicles newer than 10 years old or that have completed less than 200,000km, whichever comes first.

Mercedes-Benz’s electric EQE and EQS models are covered for an extended 10-year, 250,000km period, whichever comes first. The 12V battery in all vehicles is covered by a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

    Vehicle warranty10 years, 250,000km
    High-voltage battery warranty10 years, 250,000km

MG announced its 10-year, 250,000km extended warranty on August 1, 2024, but from July 1, 2025 it was revised and now requires owners to complete scheduled servicing within the official MG dealer network – just like Nissan’s industry-leading 10-year/300,000km and Mitsubishi’s pioneering 10-year/200,000 extended warranties.

MG’s 10-year extended warranty (and its seven-year/unlimited-km standard warranty) applies to private buyers of all models (including hybrid and electric vehicles), while for vehicles used for commercial purposes – including fleet and business customers – the warranty is seven years or 160,000km (again, whichever comes first).

But on July 1, 2025 MG also announced a different warranty for commercial vehicles including its upcoming U9 ute, which will be backed by a five-year/160,000km warranty for commercial buyers, or a five-year/unlimited-km warranty – extendable to seven years and 200,000km for private buyers, once again if they service exclusively with MG dealers.

For both its standard and extended warranties, MG requires servicing to be completed within 30 days and 2000km of a vehicle’s scheduled service intervals.

A series of component-specific warranties are also outlined by MG and have been detailed below:

    • Anti-perforation and paint: 7 years, unlimited kilometres
    • 12V battery: 2 years, unlimited kilometres
    • “Roof decals and accessory decal kits”: 2 years, unlimited kilometres
    • Soft top/convertible roofs: 5 years, unlimited kilometres
    • Lamp and light bulbs: 3 months or 5000km
    • “Remote hand set battery”: 1 year, unlimited kilometres
    • Wheel alignment and wheel balance: 6 months or 10,000km

Mitsubishi’s 10-year warranty applies only to owners that complete their scheduled services at a Mitsubishi dealer. Otherwise the standard warranty is five years and 100,000km.

However, from December 1, 2025, the Mitsubishi Diamond Advantage 10/10 warranty (which has included 10 years of warranty and 10 years of capped-price servicing since 2020) was extended to become the 10/10/10 aftersales plan, which now includes 10 years of roadside assistance.

Under the new ‘Australian-first’ 10/10/10 program, the first 12 months of roadside assist is complimentary for buyers of new (24MY, 24MY and future models) Mitsubishi vehicles and is extended for a further 12 months upon completion of each eligible capped-price service at a Mitsubishi dealership for a maximum of 10 years.

Mitsubishi Diamond Advantage Roadside Assistance continues to be operated in conjunction with Assist Australia to offer 24/7 service Australia-wide.

Mitsubishi warranties are transferable to subsequent vehicle owners. For Outlander PHEV models, Mitsubishi offers a Drive Battery Capacity Care Program that covers its battery pack in the event it drops below 66 per cent of its usable energy capacity.

Lasting for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first, Mitsubishi will – “at its sole discretion and election” – replace, repair or otherwise treat the vehicle’s EV battery at no cost to ensure it retains at least 66 per cent of its capacity.

Mitsubishi outlines the “Drive Battery Capacity Care Program does not apply to pre-22MY Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV or Eclipse Cross Plug-in Hybrid EV“.

Mitsubishi genuine parts are covered for 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first, while accessories are covered by the new vehicle warranty. Accessories are subject to further terms and conditions, available on Mitsubishi’s website.

Several other normal wear-and-tear components are covered by a one-year, 20,000km warranty, detailed below:

    • Any component subject to regular servicing
    • Spark and glow plugs
    • Fuel injectors
    • Shock absorbers/gas struts
    • Brake discs, drums, pads or linings
    • Cooling, fuel, oil and induction lines or hoses

On January 8, 2026, Tesla confirmed its move to a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for all new vehicles delivered from January 1, 2026.

Tesla’s battery warranty is unchanged, and closely mirrors the offering of myriad rival brands.

Tesla’s new-vehicle warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, provided the “vehicle ownership transfer is performed through Tesla”. The brand’s EV battery warranty is active for a minimum capacity of 70 per cent.

Tesla also offers a Parts, Body and Paint Repair warranty, which provides one-year or 20,000km of coverage, whichever comes first.
