Gone are the days where Australian families would buy a new Holden Commodore or Mitsubishi Magna wagon. Instead, medium SUVs have become the de facto family car for so many Aussies.

It’s Australia’s best-selling category of vehicles: for the first six months of 2023, VFACTS industry sales data shows 130,210 medium SUVs were sold in Australia.

A big consideration for buyers, particularly those with families or looking to start a family, is boot space.

Below we have compared boot space figures for all 23 vehicles from the medium SUV under $60,000 segment, which accounts for over three quarters of all medium SUV sales in Australia.

We have included the figures supplied by manufacturers, and where available detailed their measuring parameters.

Individual manufacturers can measure boot space differently. We have listed the manufacturers’ claimed figures below. The table specifies the minimum boot capacity for each vehicle.
