Isuzu has put drive-away pricing on hold for its range-topping D-Max X-Terrain ute, effectively bumping the price up by $10,000.

The D-Max X-Terrain launched with a list price of $63,990 before on-road costs, equivalent to $69,398 drive-away in Victoria – but undercut the list price with a $59,990 drive-away offer.

As of this week, however, the drive-away offer has been removed from the Isuzu Ute website.

An Isuzu Ute spokesperson confirmed the offer isn’t currently available, although CarExpert understands it could be reinstated in the future.

“IUA has removed the Drive Away Price of the 21MY Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain due to the current extended delivery lead times and future Model Year transition,” the company said in a statement.

“All orders on the 21MY X-Terrain already placed prior to the start of August will be protected at the previous $59,990 Drive Away Price.

“IUA is planning to provide further information, pricing and future Drive Away offers on the 22MY D-MAX in September.”

Without its drive-away price, the D-Max X-Terrain goes head-to-head with the Ford Ranger FX4 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo and Toyota HiLux SR5+ automatic.

The drive-away offer on the entry-level D-Max SX remains, as does the $63,990 drive-away launch offer on MU-X LS-T seven-seater.

Despite the price rise, Isuzu recently confirmed it’s set on keeping the D-Max on Australia’s new-car sales podium.

The D-Max ute trailed only the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux on the VFACTS sales charts in June, and came in fourth during July.

“That is our ultimate goal, to maintain the number three position,” said Ben Jaeger, general manager of sales for Isuzu Ute Australia.

“We’d love it to be number three ongoing, and I think when the supply gets back to a normal position that will be the position we hold in the segment,” he said.

Mr Jaeger said the D-Max is still “somewhat restricted by supply”, acknowledging at the same time plenty of rivals are also being held back by a lack of cars coming into Australia.

Supply of the D-Max has been a constant struggle for Isuzu, especially when it comes to the range-topping X-Terrain.

Wait times have blown out to five or six months on some configurations, despite the brand’s best efforts to secure more stock from the factory in Thailand.
