2026 BMW iX3 EV dips under $90,000 with new base model

BMW has priced its new entry-level iX3 electric SUV, which dips under the Luxury Car Tax threshold and cuts the base price by a whopping $20,000.

Australia's 2026 BMW iX3 lineup is doubling in size before the all-new mid-size luxury electric SUV even arrives here, with the new rear-wheel drive 'iX3 40' variant now on sale from $89,900 before on-road costs.

Due to touch down in local showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2026 (October-December), the new BMW iX3 40 dips under the $90,000 barrier as well as the Luxury Car Tax threshold, making the new entry-level variant also eligible for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemptions when purchased via a novated lease.

Announced today, the iX3 40 is $20,000 more affordable off the bat than the iX3 50 xDrive, which arrives this month and will come with dual-motor all-wheel drive and a larger battery. It also undercuts the cheapest Audi Q6 e-tron by $10,000.

Power in the iX3 40 comes from a 235kW/500Nm electric motor driving the rear axle exclusively, fed by an 82.6kWh (usable) lithium-ion battery.

BMW claims a driving range of up to 635km on the WLTP test cycle, and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 200km/h.

The iX3 40 offers DC fast-charging at up to 300kW, at which it's capable of accepting a 10-80 per cent charge in just 21 minutes. The Bavarian marque says that at the top charging speed, up to 300km of range can be added in just 10 minutes.

AC charging is capped at 11kW as standard, with an optional 22kW on-board charger allowing a full charge in approximately four hours 15 minutes.

Available options for the entry-level iX3 include the M Sport Package Pro ($TBC), which adds racier M appointments inside and out, including red M Sport brake calipers and larger 21- and 22-inch alloy wheel designs.

Further to the confirmation of pricing and specifications for the iX3 40, all BMW iX3 variants are now available with a wider range of paint, upholstery and wheel options from July production.

Highlights include an extended range of BMW Individual options ($7600), with newly available choices headlined by Grigio Telesto Pearl, Tanzanite Blue II, Twilight Purple and Java Green.
