Hyundai has revealed details of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid at its 2026 CEO Investor Day in South Korea, attended by CarExpert, ahead of the new electrified mid-size SUV’s expected arrival in Australian showrooms next year.
The fifth-generation Tucson is one of seven new Hyundai models due to launch globally within the next eight months. It brings boxier styling and a larger interior, as revealed when it made its global debut in South Korea earlier this week.
At its 2026 Investor Day, Hyundai confirmed the Tucson Hybrid will use its next-generation hybrid system, codenamed ‘TMED-II FF’, combining a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a new dual-motor hybrid transmission.
The system produces combined outputs of 180kW of power and 380Nm of torque, up from the current Tucson Hybrid’s 172kW and 367Nm.

It also gives the Tucson 37kW more power than the Toyota RAV4 GX 2WD Hybrid, which produces a combined 143kW. Toyota does not publish a combined system torque figure for the RAV4, preventing a direct torque comparison.
Hyundai claims the Tucson Hybrid can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 8.5 seconds.
Compared with the non-hybrid Tucson’s 1.6-litre turbo-petrol powertrain, the hybrid offers 27 per cent more power, 43 per cent more torque and 43 per cent lower fuel consumption, while cutting one second from its claimed 0–100km/h time.
The presentation listed combined fuel consumption of 5.7L/100km for the new hybrid. On paper, that is higher than the 4.9L/100km claimed for the current Australian front-wheel-drive Tucson Hybrid and 5.3L/100km for the all-wheel-drive version.

However, Australian fuel-consumption numbers remain unconfirmed, meaning the figures may not be directly comparable.
Hyundai Motor Group has previously said its next-generation 1.6-litre hybrid system uses more than four per cent less fuel than the previous-generation powertrain in a mid-size SUV.
The new Tucson has grown by 60mm to 4700mm long and is 40mm wider at 1905mm, while its 2785mm wheelbase is 30mm longer than before, which may impact the final fuel figure.
Hyundai’s next-generation hybrid family also includes a 2.5-litre turbocharged system used in bigger models such as the Palisade large SUV.
Both systems employ a dual-motor transmission. The ‘P1’ motor starts the petrol engine, generates electricity to charge the battery and assists with propulsion, while the ‘P2’ motor drives the vehicle and performs regenerative braking.

Hyundai says the arrangement delivers more power, improved energy efficiency, smoother shifting and greater overall powertrain refinement. The broader system can also support vehicle-to-load capability, allowing electrical appliances and devices to be powered from the vehicle.
The technology will be shared across future Hyundai and Kia models. The 2.5-litre version is already used by the latest Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride hybrids overseas, while the 1.6-litre system is expected to reach future Kia models such as the Sportage.
Hyundai Australia has not confirmed local details for the new Tucson, currently its second-best-selling model behind the Kona small SUV.
