Ford Australia is recalling over 2500 examples of its popular Ranger and Everest as a software issue, the subject of a previous recall, could result in a loss of power.
"Due to a software issue, the transmission fluid pump gears could fail while driving. This may cause a loss of hydraulic fluid pressure in the transmission, resulting in a loss of motive power," the company says in its recall notice.
"A loss of motive power could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupant and other road users."
Ford Australia says this is a "re-notification and extension" of a previous recall, issued back in December 2020. This encompassed 25,573 vehicles.
Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) listed in this new recall were included in this earlier recall.
