The Ford Transit Custom range in Australia will once again include a flagship Sport variant, with the racing-striped model due late in the third quarter of 2024.

The Sport will be available as both a short-wheelbase van and a ‘double-cab’ long-wheelbase five-seater.

Ford has also confirmed more options for the entry-level Trend, for which it announced pricing and specifications last month.

Priced from $59,990 before on-road costs, the Ford Transit Custom Sport SWB is $4000 more than the entry-level Trend van, while the top-of-the-range double-cab incurs a $3000 premium – starting from $62,990 plus on-roads.

In addition to the standard features of the Ford Transit Custom Trend, Sport variants gain a unique body kit, body stripes and grey alloy wheels.

Payload capacity for the SWB Transit Custom Sport drops to 1023kg – down on the Trend’s 1269kg figure, and 1353kg from the previous-generation model – though its braked towing capacity remains unchanged at 2500kg.

Due to its heavier side windows and second row of seats, the LWB Transit Custom Sport’s payload capacity further decreases to 854kg.

Carryover equipment from the Transit Custom Trend includes its 13-inch infotainment screen – with wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity – wireless phone charging, a roof-mounted airbag and independent rear suspension.

The Ford Transit Custom Sport is available to order in one of six colours – Frozen White (no cost) or Agate Black, Magnetic, Moondust Silver, Grey Matter and Digital Aqua Blue, all of which cost an additional $700.

Power continues to come from a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing 125kW of power and 390Nm of torque, driving the front wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Ford has also announced a host of cost-option upgrades for the Transit Custom Trend LWB, such as a Secure Visibility Pack and Load Space Air Conditioning.

The $1500 Secure Visibility Pack adds steel rear doors – in place of the standard barn doors with windows – and a digital rear-view mirror with integrated dashcam.

For $700, the Load Space Air Conditioning system allows owners to control the temperature of the rear cargo area.

The Ford Transit Custom Sport is due to arrive in Australian showrooms during the third quarter of 2024 (July to September inclusive), following the second-quarter launch of the Transit Custom Trend (April to June).
