Ford Transit Custom recalled for fire risk

The Ford Transit Custom has been recalled due to a fault that could lead to a fuel leak and subsequent fire.

"Due to a manufacturing defect, there may be insufficient clearance between a bulkhead mounting bolt and the fuel tank," the company says in its recall notice.

"This may lead to a fuel or fuel vapour leak and in the presence of an external ignition source could result in a vehicle fire.

"A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders."

The precautionary voluntary safety recall involves only diesel-powered Double Cab In Van (DCiV) variants.

"There have been no reports of related issues or incidents from customers in Australia, however as customer safety is Ford's highest priority, the recall is being conducted as a preventative measure," the company said in a statement to CarExpert.

"Ford will contact affected owners directly to arrange rectification free of charge, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

If you own an affected vehicle, you'll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Ford dealership to have the free fix carried out.
