    About the BMW 130i

Johnny purchased this BMW 130i used for $10,750 (including all on-road costs) in 2018. Johnny would buy this car again because: “I would, and in the same colour which I love especially when it’s clean. The exclusivity! Because these were very dear new, not a lot of people purchased them. It’s always fun speaking with other 130i owners about our experiences and sharing stories. “

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

Besides the usual “N52B30” behavioural traits.

It’s been a good little tike. I knew the lower 116i,118i and 120i would give grief, which is why I made the choice of going for the more robust N52 engine. There’s plenty of information on these engines with a simple Google search.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

I bought it from a middle-aged bloke who had it for 10 years. I’ve been fortunate it’s been cared for. I enjoy pretty much every moment of it.

The big engine in a little car makes me smile every time. It would get a 10, but it’s more like a 7.5 because of the smaller boot, and space in the back could be better .

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

If I bought one brand new in 2007 absolutely not.

Second-hand however, these are bargains. The depreciation bat took no prisoners on these.

It has a high amount of equipment for the money. It has dual-zone climate, auto-dimming rear mirrors, and the kerb side one dips automatically when reverse is engaged.

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

Performance is great, it’s such a hoot to drive. Big engine in a little car leaves you with a massive smile.

Economy is hit and miss, it’s only got a 50L fuel tank so enthusiastic driving drains it quickly. On the motorway I’d get around 550-600km to a tank

What do you think of the technology in your car?

For a 2007 car it’s about okay, it’s got programmable keys which set the seats, the A/C and other items which is handy if more than one person drives it. Makes me happy that I’m not constantly changing everything to my tastes.

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

Handling is great, it eggs you on to drive it faster.

The ride quality is tolerable, I’m willing to sacrifice some comfort for the composure and confidence.

Mine’s on custom aftermarket wheels which run a lower profile which doesn’t help. It is however miles better than the run-flats it left the factory with.
