Hate trying to squeeze out after parking your BMW iX, X7, or 7 Series in a narrow space? A model update means you’ll no longer have to.

The functionality is already available in Australia on the new 7 Series, we’ll update this story with details of when it’ll hit the iX and X7, when they become available.

The new Extended Parking Assistant Professional functionality allows owners using the My BMW iPhone app to pull their car out of parking spaces, or drive it in, without anyone behind the wheel.

Similar functionality is offered on Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles, but rather than relying on a smartphone app, the Smart Park system is controlled by buttons on the car’s key.

BMW goes a step further, however, by combining the remote control technology with its Manoeuvre Assistant.

Capable of saving up to 10 different manoeuvres up to 200m long, the system can essentially carry out a complex, pre-recorded sequence – steering, accelerating, braking, and changing gears – with no driver input.

Previously, it could only be activated from inside the car. Now, owners can start the sequence from their iPhone.

Although the Manoeuvre Assistant is capable of carrying out longer sequences than simply pulling into/out of a parking space, owners still need to stay within six metres of the car to operate it with their phones.
