Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled the 2018-2022 E-Class and CLS to fix a problem with the 12V battery.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the electrical connections for the 12 Volt battery in the boot may detach in the event of a collision,” Mercedes-Benz says in its recall notice.

“As a result, the eCall, seat adjustment, hazard warning lights and the automatic remote vehicle unlocking functions may not operate as intended.”

“If the eCall system is deactivated, in the event of an emergency it would not be possible for the vehicle occupants to connect with emergency services, either manually or automatically.”

“It may also not be possible to unlock and/or start the vehicle. As a consequence, emergency vehicles may not be directed to the affected vehicle or may be delayed. This could increase the risk of death if a serious injury has occurred.”

    • A total of 1022 vehicles are included in the campaign
    • The original recall notice is attached here
    • A VIN list of affected vehicles is attached here

Owners of affected vehicles are being asked to contact their local dealer to have the problem fixed.
