A US man might have taken the early title of the world’s dumbest driver this year, after he made a video call to a court proceeding to get out of driving on a suspended licence – while driving.

Michigan resident Corey Harris was allegedly caught driving on a suspended licence last year, and was due to appear in a Washtenaw County court via Zoom to challenge the charge.

However, when Mr Harris dialled into the call, he could be seen driving a car, telling district court Judge Cedric Simpson that he was pulling into his doctor’s office and to delay proceedings for a moment.

Judge Simpson seemed unamused by the situation, pointing out Mr Harris was due to defend himself from a driving on a suspended licence charge, but had happily called into the hearing while showing himself driving.

Mr Harris’ bond was subsequently revoked and he was ordered to turn himself into the Washtenaw County jail by 6pm that night.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Mr Harris is due to face court again on June 5, though it’s not known whether he will also face charges for using a mobile phone while driving.
