Ferrari’s first electric vehicle (EV) is going to sound like a… V8?
Images captured by spy photographer Wilco Blok and uploaded to Instagram earlier this week exposed the prototype in all its camouflaged glory, and matching video footage has now surfaced online courtesy of Imre Kovacs.
The clip shows an electric prototype leaving the Ferrari factory in Maranello in a slow, stealthy manner, but it’s the accompanying audio that caught our attention.
Despite its EV powertrain, the spied test car emits a low-pitched V8 rumble – an aggressive noise to match the fake quad tailpipes sticking out of the rear of the car.

Onlookers weren’t given the opportunity to hear the synthesised engine note in maximum attack, with the car passing by discreetly at low ‘revs’.
The simulated engine note of the Ferrari prototype suggests the Italian manufacturer is planning to integrate internal combustion engine (ICE) characteristics into its debut EV.
Ferrari representatives have previously told CarExpertthat any EV will remain true to the brand’s values.
“Driving thrills are the most important thing within our portfolio and we measure driving thrills in two ways,” said Emanuele Carando, Ferrari’s global marketing director.
“The easiest way is the smile the clients have whenever they drive our car and get out of the car. [This is] the best indication of how fun it is to drive the car.

“But there is a more scientific approach which is longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking, gear shifting and sound. Those five elements are the most important elements we evaluate and we build together to develop our cars.”
As well as introducing electric power, the upcoming model debuts a new body style that sits somewhere between a hatchback and shooting brake. It will have four doors, joining the Purosangue in the family-friendly Ferrari club.
Ferrari is not expected to take the covers off its EV until next year.
