The Hyundai i30 Sedan Hybrid will undercut the most affordable Toyota Corolla Hybrid sedan when it arrives here later this month.

Hyundai has confirmed it will launch its base i30 Sedan Hybrid with nationwide pricing of $35,990 drive-away. It has previously confirmed a list price of $33,000 before on-roads.

That sees it undercut the Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport hybrid sedan in states like New South Wales, where it’s priced at $36,133 drive-away or $32,320 list.

It’s slightly more expensive than the Corolla Ascent Sport hybrid hatch, however, which is $35,917 drive-away in New South Wales, while the booted Corolla is still cheaper drive-away in states like Queensland ($35,690 drive-away).

Hyundai still has yet to reveal list or drive-away pricing for the Elite and Premium versions of its i30 Sedan Hybrid. They’ll go on sale in the second quarter of 2024.

The base hybrid will arrive before then, with 200 units arriving in January and another 400 due in February. It’ll officially go on sale in early February, and Hyundai is quoting a wait time of less than three months for new orders.

Australia is late in getting the electrified i30 Sedan, which is finally arriving here as part of a mid-life update for the model.

It features a 1.6-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, featuring a 1.32kWh battery, 32kW/170Nm electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with total system outputs of 104kW of power and 265Nm of torque.

Hyundai claims combined cycle fuel economy of 3.9L/100km, identical to the Corolla Hybrid sedan.

The Corolla is currently the only vehicle in its segment to offer a hybrid powertrain in Australia. This powertrain accounts for 84.3 per cent of Corolla sedan sales and 85.2 per cent of hatch sales.
