Ford Mustang Mach-E recalled

Ford Australia is recalling 1218 examples of the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV to fix an issue with the rear quarter-window seal, which could allow the glass to detach from the window frame.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear quarter glass trim moulding may detach from the vehicle while driving,” the recall notice said.

“If the rear quarter glass trim moulding detaches from the vehicle while driving, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to other road users and bystanders.”

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing by Ford, requesting they contact an authorised Ford dealer to arrange an inspection and repair, free of charge.

This is the fourth product safety recall for the Mach-E this year, following a recall in February to fix the vehicle’s dashboard instrumentation. This was followed by a July recall to address the model's advanced driver-assistance systems, which also extended to the Ford Transit Custom and Transit commercial vans.

An additional recall was issued on July 23, impacting rear-wheel drive Mach-E vehicles produced between 2021 and 2023, due to a differential fault which could see the cars lose drive.

Ford Australia has issued more vehicle recalls this year than any other auto brand, with the latest Mach-E recall increasing the tally to 22, including three this month alone.

The automaker told CarExpert the number of recalls isn’t harming its reputation, and that customer safety remains its priority.
