2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid specs revealed
Hyundai has detailed the new-generation Tucson Hybrid’s more powerful petrol-electric system as it accelerates its global hybrid push.

The 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe will be the company’s first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) outside of China, offering a combined driving range of almost 1000km.
While Hyundai had previously said it was working on an EREV, this is the first time the Santa Fe has been confirmed.
The Korean car giant has also confirmed a luxury Genesis EREV will follow, said to be a flagship SUV with a combined range of 1030 kilometres.
EREVs typically use a petrol engine to add extra driving range, allowing drivers to get farther without having to rely on charging infrastructure. The setup differs from plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), where the combustion engine can send drive directly to the wheels, whereas EREVs are more like an electric vehicle with a generator.
In an EREV, the combustion engine is used to charge the battery, but doesn't send drive to the wheels.
The Santa Fe EREV will use dual electric motors, and will be capable of travelling approximately 966 kilometres without needing to stop, but will use a battery less than half the size of a typical EV.
Hyundai CEO and President José Muñoz made the announcement at the company’s 2026 Investor Day conference; however, full details of the model haven't been released.
It’s not clear whether Australia will receive the Santa Fe EREV, with production set to begin at Hyundai’s factory in the US state of Alabama.
A spokesperson for Hyundai has confirmed EREV models will be coming to Australia, but was unable to provide a timeline or any further details at this stage.
Mr Muñoz has so far only confirmed the Santa Fe EREV will be launched in North America in the first half of 2027.
Depending on the market, the Santa Fe is currently offered with petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Hyundai is set to launch an EREV version of its wedge-shaped Ioniq V in China, though the Santa Fe EREV is believed to be the first global product to receive the powertrain.
