2026 CarExpert Choice winner: Best Luxury Mid-Size SUV

The BMW X3 has been named Australia’s best mid-size luxury SUV in the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards.

It beat out two finalists: the Genesis GV70 and the Volvo XC60. It's also one of five BMWs to take home a trophy in this year's CarExpert Choice Awards.

The X3 is fresh off a recent redesign, which brought a bold new look inside and out for BMW's popular mid-size SUV.

The interior is spacious and comfortable and features thoroughly modern technology, including the new BMW iDrive 9.0 operating system and some seriously striking ambient lighting, though some adjustments can be a bit fiddly and some surfaces could do with nicer materials.

It's much harder to find fault with the driving experience, with every X3 being a thoroughly good steer – particularly the flagship M50 xDrive with its inline six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain. You won't be left wanting by even the base 20 xDrive, however.

The X3 is an impressive all-rounder, and yet more proof that if you're after a new luxury SUV, visiting a BMW showroom should be at the top of your to-do list.
