    About the Volkswagen T-Roc

Simon A purchased this Volkswagen T-Roc new for $48,880 (including all on-road costs). Simon A would buy this car again because: “A fantastic mid-sized SUV with all the mod-cons and safety features that one could imagine. Very comfortable to drive, including on longer trips and the vehicle has presented no faults or issues since I’ve owned it. The equipment list is exhaustive and many of these are only included in the most luxurious vehicles or those at the top-end of the spec list. It looks good and handles really well, with responsive power and ‘acceptable’ fuel economy.”

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

No identified issues since purchase. EVERYTHING does what it’s meant to do. Volkswagen also offer great post-purchase follow-up advice should you need it.

I was initially reluctant to get into a VW, but this is now my second and I’ll definitely be back for more.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

Fantastic. From the moment I enquired, the dealership team were very helpful, but definitely not is a pushy way.

They showed me key features upon delivery of the vehicle and have even followed up to ensure everything is running smoothly.

How has the purchase and aftercare experience been with your car?

Without fault. The VW team are fantastic at keeping in touch post-delivery. I am yet to take it back for its first service, but based on my previous experiences with Volkswagen, I would not expect there to be any issues.

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

Indeed I am. It has all the bells and whistles that one could imagine and need. The price was comparable to other similar models, in fact probably slightly cheaper given the accessories that are actually included with this model spec.

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

Performance is more than adequate for my commute and country trips, some of which are several hundred klms. The engine is quite ‘torquey’ in the lower range and cruises well in top gear. Overall economy is acceptable, which is more so based on my driving habits than anything. I average approximately low 7.0s (per 100km) and slightly better economy on country runs.

Generally speaking, I am averaging approximately 780-820kms per 55L tank (98 premium). All that with fairly assertive driving.

What do you think of the technology in your car?

To be honest, I’m not sure what other technology is out there that isn’t already in this vehicle.

I have the ‘Driver Assistance Package, but deliberately kept away from the sound upgrade as I found this disappointing in a previous model. I’m glad I did, as the eight-speaker Bose system is fine.

The tech in this vehicle continues to astound and includes autonomous breaking, adaptive cruise, lane departure, blind spot warning, several airbags.

What amazes me the most is the driver alert function, which alerts the driver if he dozes off by automatically (gently) dabbing the brakes and eventually escalates to beeps, pings, until it will eventually slow and stop.

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

To be honest here, the seats can be a bit firm on your posterior on longer trips.

Other than that, the seating position is fine and there is a reasonable amount of legroom for rear seat passengers. Handling is quite good for a mid-range SUV.

It’s quite fun to throw it into some corners whilst using the flappy paddles gear shifts. Sports mode is still quite fun, considering it is a ‘hair dressers’ 4WD and won’t fail to get the heart pumping if pushed.

I’ve not taken it off-road and don’t intend to, even though there is a AWD function. Probably okay for sedate trips to the snow fields, but this is not a car for serious camping folk.

Do you have any additional comments about your car?

Love it so much, that I recommend it to those in the market for a mid-sized SUV. Something a bit different from the Korean models and really is underrated in my books.
