    About the Volkswagen Golf

Michael L purchased this Volkswagen Golf used for $27,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2017. Michael L would buy this car again because: “Great car with a ton of usable space to carry stuff. For its time (and now) it had lot of fantastic features such as adaptive cruise, heated leather seats, and auto parking. The little 1.4 TSI engine has 250Nm of torque has enough punch to get you out of trouble any very economic to run. “

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

I have had a few issues but the main one was with the DSG making a high pitched sound in between changes after the car warmed up.

This was eventually fixed under warranty by Volkswagen even though it wasn’t in warranty at the time. Other than that nothing major except the adaptive cruise failed for a while, however local mechanic was able to fix quite quickly.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

Love the car however could do with a bit more power. I just love how flexible it is from the under-deck storage, to the carrying hooks and the clever blinds that not only retracts in three different stages but has a net that connects to the roof and can be used with the back seats up or down.

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

Yes, very happy and would likely buy something similar next time. I’m really disappointed with the Mk8 in Australia not having leather seats anymore (not even an option) in the top grade R-Line.

The car for a seven-year old has features that are still sort after today and is cheap to run

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

Like I said before the little 1.4 TSI has only 103kW of power however with 250Nm it can go pretty well.

Off the line it can chirp the front wheels but it runs out of breath up high in the rev range. I’m averaging around 7.0L/100km around town which I’m very happy with even though it uses 95 RON unleaded.

What do you think of the technology in your car?

The technology is getting old although that’s expected in a seven year-old car. It lacks Apple CarPlay/Android Auto but the Bluetooth works very well for both calls and audio.

I just love its adaptive cruise… could not buy another car without it.

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

Being a wagon it handles like a car should and not like a lot of SUVs that jiggle over bumps. The DSG can be easily put into Sports Mode with just a pull back so you can drive through and around corners. It’s no sports car but it can be fun.

Do you have any additional comments about your car?

I have owned the car for five years now and I still love driving it. It’s a pity wagons are so unpopular these days because they are so flexible to use with little downsides.
