A recall for the Toyota Kluger issued earlier this year has been expanded to include more vehicles.
A total of 34,377 Klugers produced between March 31, 2021 and November 10, 2023 were recalled in March 2026 due to the possibility of their second-row seatbacks not properly restraining occupants in a collision.
This has now been expanded to include Klugers made up to June 10, 2025, bringing the total number affected to 46,467.
This includes Kluger 4x2, Kluger AWD and Kluger Hybrid models in GX, GXL and Grande grades.

“The subject vehicles are equipped with second row seats that use recliner assemblies to unlock the seat backs, allow for seat back angle adjustment, and lock the seat back in place once adjustment is complete,” the recall notice said.
“Due to a failure to consider the force balance between the locking spring and the return spring during a design change made by the supplier, a combination of recliner return spring orientation and outer clearance between the recliner guide and ratchet may cause the recliner teeth to not fully engage during seat back adjustment.
“This may lead to the seat back not remaining in a locked position. A seat back that has not been secured in a locked position may fail to properly restrain occupants, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a collision at higher speeds.”

Toyota said it will replace the seatback return springs in the recliner assemblies of all affected vehicles, free of charge.
The repair is expected to take approximately one hour, although some vehicles may need to remain with the dealer for longer depending on workshop scheduling.
Toyota Australia will contact owners of affected vehicles directly.
For further information, owners can contact their preferred Toyota dealer or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366, weekdays from 8:00am to 7:00pm AEST, quoting their Kluger’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
