Black editions are all the rage among car brands in Australia, and Hyundai has lobbed two more of them.
The Hyundai Kona BLK Edition and Tucson BLK Edition are arriving in showrooms this month, with the latter being the first model in Australia sourced from Vietnam.
Based on the Elite trim of each crossover SUV and offered only with front-wheel drive and hybrid power, the BLK Edition models – as their name suggests – feature various elements finished in black, including their wheels and badging. This comes at a $2650 premium, though both special editions feature additional equipment to justify this.
The Kona BLK Edition is priced at $42,600 before on-road costs and over the $39,950 Kona Elite HEV 2WD it's based on, adds:

These join features found on the standard Kona Elite, including:
Despite the name, you can still get the Kona BLK Edition in other colours. Atlas White is standard, with Ecotronic Grey, Abyss Black, Ultimate Red and Denim Blue Mica finishes available for an additional $595.
The Kona Hybrid range features a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 77kW of power and 144Nm of torque, mated with a 32kW/170Nm electric motor, a 1.32kWh battery and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Total system outputs are 104kW and 265Nm, with fuel consumption of 3.9L/100km.

While Hyundai has confirmed it'll bring just 750 Tucson BLK Editions to Australia, it hasn't provided a number for the Kona.
The Tucson BLK Edition is priced at $51,000 before on-roads, compared to $48,350 for the Elite HEV 2WD it's based on, and this brings:
These join features standard on the Elite, including:

Pearl White Mica paint is standard, with Olivine Grey, Space Black, Ruby Luxe and Stormy Sea metallic finishes available for an additional $750.
The Tucson Hybrid mates a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 132kW and 264Nm with a 37.4kW/264Nm electric motor, a 1.49kWh battery and a six-speed automatic transmission, for total system outputs of 172kW and 367Nm and fuel consumption of 5.3L/100km.
Hyundai backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, extendable to seven years if you service exclusively at the brand's dealerships, with high-voltage batteries backed by a separate eight-year, 160,000km warranty.

The Tucson BLK Edition is being sourced from Vietnam, instead of South Korea like the rest of the local Tucson lineup, with Hyundai Australia previously confirming in August: "This new supply channel creates the potential for additional Hyundai models to be sourced from Vietnam in the future, however there are no plans to expand sourcing at this time.”
Both the Tucson and Kona are at the end of their lifecycles. A new-generation Tucson has already been revealed ahead of a mid-2027 local launch, while a new-generation Kona has been spied testing.
The pricing announcement for the new BLK Edition models comes just days after Omoda Jaecoo announced a Black Edition of its mid-size Jaecoo J7 crossover SUV.

Black editions – sometimes referred to as 'black packs' – are an easy way to generate further interest in a model, particularly given the enduring popularity of black exterior finishes and black interiors in Australia.
There have been over a dozen new black editions launched in Australia in 2026 alone.
Looking just at mid-size SUVs like the Jaecoo J7 and Hyundai Tucson, these have included the Mitsubishi Outlander LS Black Edition, Zeekr 7X Black Special Edition, Xpeng G6 AWD Edition, and Cupra Terramar Tribe Edition Black.
