Want a car that learns and grows with you? Toyota has a vehicle for you.
Specifically the new GR Yaris Special Edition RZ High Performance Morizo Selection, which is offered only through the company’s Kinto car subscription service.
The car will come with “timely” software updates from the second quarter of 2022 for “technological innovations and the optimisation of basic vehicle performance in terms of driving, turning, and stopping”.
Toyota is also considering software updates tailored “to suit each individual based on customer driving data to achieve ‘cars that evolve in tune with people'”.
It’s unclear how much differentiation will be available through the service, or when such a service may become available.
Named after CEO Akio Toyoda’s racing persona, the Morizo Selection is available in white, red or black.
Unique features include a Morizo logo on the windscreen, and Rookie Racing logos on the wheels, seats and interior door trim. There are also Rookie Racing-inspired colours for the seat stitching, shocks and coil springs.
As it’s based on the Japanese domestic market RZ High Performance trim, this special edition also includes a limited-slip front and rear differentials, a water spray for the intercooler, 18-inch alloy wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
Under the bonnet there’s a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 200kW and 370Nm hooked up to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
The GR Yaris Morizo Selection is a subscription-only proposition in Japan, where it will cost between ¥54,340 ($640) and ¥81,840 ($964) every month over three years, depending on the size of your lump sum payments.
