Queensland Police had an eventful four hours conducting a road safety operation in the Glass House Mountains this week, which included seven arrests and a helicopter pursuit of an intoxicated driver.
Operation Lasso took place between 8pm and 12am on Wednesday July 24, with members of the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad stationed on a northbound section of the Bruce Highway.
Among the 650 roadside breath tests (RBTs) conducted, three motorists were found to be driving above the legal blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) limit.
One of these didn’t include a 24-year-old woman from Mango Hill, who drove through the RBT site after being stopped and questioned about providing a false name, knocking over cones which led to officers calling for POLAIR support.
Her Toyota Corolla was allegedly tracked on the wrong side of the road at speeds up to 180km/h before a tyre deflation device was deployed, leading to her arrest.
She was taken to Caboolture police station in custody and has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, possession of dangerous drugs, obstructing police and contravening direction by a police officer.
Another motorist, a 21-year-old North Lakes man, was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine and MDMA, leading to two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing things such as drug paraphernalia (in this case, a mobile phone).
In total, 16 infringement notices were issued to motorists as a part of the short operation, which included driving on a nature strip, failing to display P plates, driving defective vehicles, as well as unregistered and unlicensed driving.
