Mazda CX-90 recalled

Mazda Australia has recalled 509 examples of the CX-90 SUV, owing to a fault which could cause its autonomous emergency braking system to be triggered by roadside objects which pose no threat to the SUV.

“Due to a calibration issue within the Vehicle Control Module (VCM), when driving at low speeds the vehicle may falsely detect reflective objects such as metal walls, barriers or similar objects on the side of the road as an approaching object,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.

“This may trigger an unintended brake activation.

“Unintended brake activation could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Mazda says it’s currently preparing a remedy for the fault.

If you own an affected CX-90, Mazda will contact you to book an appointment with your preferred dealer to update the Vehicle Control Module with a revised calibration at no charge when a fix is available.
