New South Wales police have thrown the book at a pair of Volkswagen Golf drivers who were caught at more than 75km/h above the speed limit while street racing.
Liverpool Highway Patrol officers caught the two hatchbacks at an undisclosed location, with an image of the radar readout showing one of the cars hit 125km/h – suggesting the speed limit was 40km/h or 50km/h.
The driver of the first Golf was a provisional licence holder, while the second was an unaccompanied learner who was allegedly following the preceding vehicle closely.

In New South Wales, drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 45km/h – the highest bracket – can be issued an on-the-spot fine of $2959 as well as a six demerit point penalty.
Additionally, learners who drive unaccompanied can be fined $1045.
Both drivers had their licences suspended, with the learner unable to hold their licence for at least three months, while the P-plater will have their provisional licence period extended by six months after they get it back, delaying their move to a full licence.
They were also issued Court Attendance Notices for multiple offences.
