More stock of the Honda Civic Type R hot hatch is coming, allowing the Japanese brand to fulfil all existing orders in Australia.
“Honda Australia currently has over 50 units in stock and available for immediate delivery with more arriving this month,” said a company spokesperson.
It’s a massive turnaround in supply for the hot hatch, for which buyers were facing waits of upwards of 20 months as recently as early last year.
Later in 2023, it secured 500 units, allowing it to slash waiting times by up to nine months.

The Type R is among a range of hot hatches – also including the Toyota GR Corolla, Volkswagen Golf R and Hyundai i20 N and i30 N – for which demand has outstripped supply.
Hyundai and Volkswagen were even forced to pause orders for their hot hatches for several months in the face of insufficient supply. Orders for these vehicles have subsequently reopened.
The Civic Type R is currently the priciest model Honda Australia sells, retailing for $72,600 drive-away.
It packs a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 235kW of power and 420Nm of torque, mated exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. It’s front-wheel drive-only.
