The limited-run Cupra Formentor VZ5 will not only be the first model from the Spanish brand to offer Audi's stonking turbocharged five-cylinder engine in Australia, it'll also be the first to offer enhancements from German performance tuning house ABT Sportsline.
Cupra Australia has confirmed "very limited numbers" of the 2027 Cupra Formentor VZ5 Custom Cupra by ABT Edition are available to order, with pricing to start from $101,990 before on-road costs or $109,990 drive-away.
That's an $8000 premium over the 'standard' MY26 Formentor VZ5 that's due on sale before the end of this year. First deliveries of the Custom Cupra by ABT Edition will commence during the second quarter of 2027.
First revealed in June, the ABT kit brings "a bespoke package of exterior enhancements" including more aggressive side skirts, a rear spoiler, and additional front and rear styling elements to "create a more assertive appearance without abandoning the bold design and distinctive stance of the Formentor".

Filling the wheel-arches are exclusive 20-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, while the ABT Edition is further distinguished by its black exhaust outlets, dark chrome exterior badging, and ABT branding. ABT-branded floor mats round out the enhancements.
The heart of the Formentor VZ5 remains the same, though. A 287kW/480Nm 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo-petrol engine is nicked from the likes of the Audi RS3 and the previous RSQ3, driving all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Cupra claims a 4.2-second dash from 0-100km/h, which is half a second less than the 245kW Formentor VZx with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol donk. It's also 0.3 seconds quicker than the previous-generation Audi RSQ3 with the same engine.
It's understood fewer than 100 examples of the regular VZ5 will make it Down Under, making the ABT Edition an even more exclusive version of an already exclusive model.

The only options for both the VZ5 and VZ5 Custom Cupra by ABT Edition are premium or matte paints, which attract a $790 or $3300 upcharge, respectively.
Cupra also covers the ABT Edition with the same five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty as its wider model lineup, with five years of roadside assistance included.
At this stage it's unclear whether ABT kits will be available for other Cupra model lines, considering the original reveal in June included treatments for the entire Formentor, Leon and Leon Sportstourer ranges.
