2027 BMW X5 price and specs

The fifth-generation BMW X5 is arriving in Australia soon, and both petrol and diesel versions of the all-new large luxury SUV have now been priced.

They're due to arrive here in the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2026, with the diesel-powered 40d xDrive priced at $143,900 before on-road costs – up $4000 on the outgoing xDrive30d – and the petrol-powered 40 xDrive $2000 more expensive than its xDrive40i predecessor at $145,900 plus on-roads.

The X5 lineup will expand in the first quarter of 2027 with the electric iX5 and plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive, for which pricing has yet to be announced.

The new-generation X5 lineup features BMW's Neue Klasse design language, first seen on the electric iX3 mid-size SUV and i3 electric sedan, with "bolder, more monolithic" exterior styling. On BMW's new-generation SUVs, there are taller, narrower kidney grilles.

Inside, the latest BMWs – including the new X5 – feature BMW Panoramic Vision, which is a display that runs from pillar to pillar at the base of the windscreen.

A traditional head-up display also remains, while there's a 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen – up from 14.9 inches – and a separate display for the front-seat passenger.

In addition to a larger infotainment touchscreen and these new displays, new standard equipment for the X5 includes ventilated and massaging front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Both launch powertrains use a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The diesel-powered 40d xDrive features an extra 20kW and 20Nm over the xDrive30d it replaces, while the petrol-powered 40 xDrive produces an extra 14kW and 20Nm than the xDrive40i.

The X5 is one of BMW's best-selling models in Australia, and the addition of an electric version for the first time should help further broaden its appeal.

More than 3.1 million BMW X5s have been sold globally since the launch of the first-generation model in 1999, with over 80,000 of these sold in Australia. Last year, BMW Australia delivered 3673 examples, making it the brand's third-best-selling model behind only the X1 and X3.

It has yet to announce service pricing for the new-generation X5.

BMW Individual leather-upholstered interiors are available for an additional $8300.

A BMW Individual steering wheel is offered only in conjunction with BMW Individual Smoke White upholstery.

You can also tick the option box for 'Clear&Bold' interior applications, priced at $1900. This brings polished crystal glass elements for the gear selector, start/stop button and seat controls, plus a slate surround for the centre console.

Colours

The X5 40d xDrive and 40 xDrive can be had with a choice of Black, Copper Brown, or Silverstone II interior colourways.

BMW Individual interior options, priced at $8300, comprise:
