The significantly overhauled BMW 7 Series and i7 luxury limousine range has been locked in for an Australian launch this year, and pricing of the latter has remained unchanged.

The 7 Series and i7 are due in the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2026.

The updated i7 60 xDrive wears the same $306,900 before on-road costs price of the pre-update model, $24,700 less than the rival Mercedes-Benz EQS.

There's no mention of the flagship i7 M70 in BMW's announcement, which comes after Australian EV sales reached record market share of 19.9 per cent in May 2026.

The refreshed i7 electric sedan will be joined by the refreshed petrol-powered six-cylinder mild-hybrid 740, priced from $277,900 before on-road costs, marginally more than the outgoing 740i M Sport's $272,900 list price.

The substantial mid-life update to the G70-generation 7 Series/i7 brings revised front-end styling with a prominent illuminated double-kidney grille, and an interior inspired by BMW's Neue Klasse models – the first of which, the iX3 SUV, goes on sale here this month.

Seven different versions of the new 7 Series, spanning petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and electric powertrains, were revealed in Germany earlier this year.

While hybrid and potentially even V8-powered variants may eventually arrive here, the i7 60 xDrive and 740 will spearhead the new 7 Series range in Australia.

Three versions of the i7 were revealed overseas, but thus far only the mid-spec i7 xDrive60 has been confirmed, running the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup as the outgoing model.

Total system outputs remain unchanged at 400kW and 745Nm, while a larger 112.5kWh battery sees claimed WLTP driving range improve from 625km to 727km.

Its 0-100km/h claim of 4.8 seconds is 0.1 seconds slower than before.

The new Gen6 battery also improves on the current model's 101.7kWh battery pack and 195kW DC fast-charging capability. With charging speeds of up to 250kW, BMW says up to 235km of range can be added in as little as 10 minutes.

Kerb weight hasn't been disclosed, but isn't expected to differ significantly from the current i7 xDrive60's 2715kg.

Inside, there's BMW's new Panoramic iDrive system featuring a head-up display, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a passenger screen, and another display which stretches across the base of the windscreen.

As a limousine, rear-seat comfort and amenities remain a priority, and there's a roof-mounted rear passenger display powered by BMW's latest-generation processor.

The 740 uses an updated version of BMW's B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine, with power up 14kW to 294kW and torque increasing by 40Nm to 580Nm. This is still mated with a 48V mild-hybrid system and eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite the higher outputs, there's been a modest improvement in fuel economy, with consumption dropping from 7.9L/100km to 7.7L/100km.

The 740 comes standard with the BMW M Sport Package, which includes 20-inch alloy wheels, blue-painted M Sport brake calipers, crystal headlights and a choice of four-spoke steering wheel designs.

    Other standard equipment includes:

    • Integral Active Steering
    • Adaptive air suspension
    • Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof
    • Heated, ventilated and massaging front and outboard rear seats
    • Soft-close doors
    • Bowers & Wilkins sound system

The i7 60 xDrive additionally features:

    • 21-inch alloy wheels
    • Adaptive Chassis Control Professional
    • Automatic doors

For the first 12 months of production, both the updated 7 Series and i7 will be available with a $12,900 First Edition Package.

It includes two-tone paintwork – otherwise a $16,500 option – along with 21-inch BMW M alloy wheels, BMW Individual leather trim, and a wool and cashmere interior treatment.

An M Sport Pro package is available at no extra cost, bringing high-gloss black brake calipers, Shadow Line exterior trim, an M rear spoiler and darkened tail-lights with M logos.

The BMW iX1 SUV is the brand’s best-selling EV in Australia, with BMW sitting 11th of all manufacturers for EV sales in the first five months of 2026 – with Mercedes-Benz 14th, Audi 18th and Lexus 41st.

Overall, BMW is the 15th-best-selling brand – again leading all its key rivals – despite sales being down 13.4 per cent to the end of May 2026.
