An XV by any other name – local pricing and specifications for the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek have been announced as pre-orders for the new-gen crossover open this week, ahead of an anticipated market launch in April.

Priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs, the entry point to Subaru’s small SUV range is up by $1800, although this is offset by all-new design, revised powertrains, and greater levels of specification.

The Crosstrek line-up comprises five variants and two powertrains, all featuring Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD) system and a standard Lineartronic CVT automatic with programmed ‘steps’ – eight for the Boxer petrol, and seven for the e-Boxer hybrid.

Key rivals for the Subaru Crosstrek include the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Mazda CX-30, Mitsubishi ASX, Nissan Qashqai, Suzuki S-Cross, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Volkswagen T-Roc.

    • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek AWD 2.0L: $34,990 (up $1800)
    • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek AWD 2.0R: $38,490 (up $2700)
    • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek AWD 2.0S: $41,490 (up $3000)
    • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek AWD Hybrid L: $38,590 (up $1800)
    • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek AWD Hybrid S: $45,090 (up $3000)

    Prices exclude on-road costs

As with its predecessor, the Crosstrek offers two powertrain variants.

First is the regular 2.0-litre Boxer flat four petrol, which generates 115kW (6000rpm) and 196Nm (4000rpm). Subaru says this engine has been “enhanced” for this new generation, though stops short of the full details.

There’s also the 2.0-litre e-Boxer Hybrid, which combines the standard motor with “additional battery-based power” and “electric motor assistance” for improved fuel economy. Outputs are rated at 110kW (5800-6000rpm) and 196Nm (4000rpm).

Subaru claims combined fuel economy of 7.2L per 100km for the standard Crosstrek petrol, while the e-Boxer Hybrid drops that to 6.5L per 100km.

The fuel tank measures a large-for-segment 63 litres for the petrol, and 48 litres for the hybrid.

CO2 emissions for the Petrol and Hybrid are quoted at 165g/km and 147g/km respectively.

Both power units meet Euro 6b emissions standards, and are tuned to run on regular 91 RON unleaded fuel.
