Audi is introducing its smallest sporty SUV to Australia.

The 2021 Audi SQ2 arrives locally in May, packing a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque.

Priced at $64,400 before on-road costs, it’ll wear a price tag just $200 higher than that of the current Audi S3 Sportback and $1400 less than the S3 sedan – both of which will be replaced by a new generation before the end of 2021.

Its belated arrival coincides with a facelift for the Q2 line, albeit one that isn’t as extensive as other recent Audi facelifts.

For example, the MMI infotainment system retains a rotary dial controller instead of adding touch functionality, and doesn’t move to the latest interface.

The regular Q2 is set to launch in the second quarter of this year. We’ve contacted Audi Australia for more specific launch timing.

At this price point and with its outputs, it has little in the way of direct competition.

Similarly-priced rivals include the BMW X2 M35i xDrive, Mini John Cooper Works Countryman and Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design.
