The Cupra Ateca V is a bargain in Australia. In the UK, it's priced at similar levels to a Mercedes-Benz GLA200, though is priced much, much lower here.

This means you are getting loads of car for your dollar – and it is both high quality and fun at the same time.

I’d recommend an Ateca to anyone wanting excitement without sacrificing practicality, and I’d happily buy another Cupra for the same reason.

Ryan’s experience with the 2025 Cupra Ateca V

Living with a Cupra Ateca (even at the entry V grade) feels like owning a hot hatch that accidentally grew up and had responsibilities.

Day to day, it’s effortless – performing exceptionally around town as well as on the highway. While detuned and no supercar like its brother, the 2.0L turbo engine is more than enough, with a great gearbox, AWD handling, and a taut chassis, combining to make this car really fun to drive.

The biggest frustration has been the interior tech. Adjusting the climate through touch sliders while driving is annoying, particularly at night when they’re hard to see. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it is disappointing for what is very much a driver-focused car.

Fuel use sits around 8L/100km in real life, and it requires 95 octane fuel. Servicing costs are really attractive – and if pre-paid, significantly lower than even the budget-priced MG ZS.

It swallows weekend luggage with ease and handles family duties without complaint, with loads of interior space thanks to its boxy body.

There are about 45 of these left in Australia at the time of writing. We paid $38,900 for a demo with 1000km. This is $13,000 less than you'd have needed to pay three months ago and $23,000 less than you'd need to fork out for the mechanically identical Skoda Sportline 4x4.

My advice? Buy it with your heart and your head – it’s practical, fun, and makes great financial sense as well.
