The Volvo EX30 has been a great car to own. It's small and easy to drive in the city and more than capable on the highway. It is well built and feels very solid on the road.
If you like a minimalist interior with few distractions, then you may like it too.
Owning the EX30 for the past 18 months has been an absolute pleasure.

When I first started looking for an EV, I was surprised at how large most models were and struggled to find a small hatchback-sized option from a reputable brand.
For some, the EX30 might feel a little compact, but for my wife and me, it’s the perfect size. It fits easily in the garage (yes, I’m one of those rare people who actually use the garage for car storage), is simple to park and, most importantly, manoeuvres effortlessly into those ridiculously tight charging bays that Tesla insists on building.
On the road, the EX30 feels solid and composed. It handles well for a car tipping the scales at nearly 1.9 tonnes. It’s not a sports car, but it accelerates quicker than most and remains impressively quiet at highway speeds.

Now, onto the technology. The 12-inch touchscreen is clear and responsive, though physical buttons are few and far between.
The menus are logical and easy to navigate, but using the screen while driving can be fiddly. If you’re not a fan of voice commands via the native Google operating system, this might be a deal-breaker.
Efficiency has exceeded my expectations. With the recent addition of ‘Range Mode’ through an over-the-air update, the car often achieves under 15kWh per 100km around town.

On longer trips, such as Sydney to Canberra, I’ve consistently seen real-world ranges of at least 420km.
Charging speeds are more than adequate, regularly hitting 150kW when starting from 20 per cent.
Overall, if you’re after a well-built EV that’s compact enough for city driving yet spacious enough for four adults, the EX30 is a fantastic choice.
