An American woman has used a Ford Mustang as the getaway car in an unlikely – but very 2024 – robbery, stealing dozens of sought-after Stanley cups in the pony car.

In a post uploaded to Facebook, the City of Roseville, California Police Department announced it had arrested a 23-year-old woman after she allegedly stole 65 Stanley ‘Quencher’ cups from a shopping centre.

The woman reportedly exited the store with a trolley full of Stanley cups – worth an estimated $US2500 ($AU3800) and loaded them into the Mustang’s boot and passenger side footwell, though she was soon pulled over after leaving the shopping complex.

According to City of Roseville police, she was charged with grand theft, which carries a maximum penalty of a $US1000 ($AU1520) fine and up to six months in a county jail.

It’s the latest appearance in US headlines for a Ford Mustang, with the pony cars unfortunately making the news for the wrong reasons, like hoons crashing them while leaving car shows.

Last year a Ford Mustang driver crashed into a store in Williamstown, South Carolina, having mistaken the accelerator for the brake pedal while reversing into a parking spot.
