Subaru Trailseeker becomes one of the few EVs available in Australia with this important feature

The Subaru Trailseeker has gained the option of a spare wheel, making it one of the few electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Australia to offer this added peace of mind.

Tyre repair kits are ubiquitous among EVs, including electric SUVs, with spare wheels limited to just a handful of models in Australia.

While LDV offers a full-size spare across its electric van range, with other commercial vehicles so-equipped including the Toyota HiLux BEV, Hyundai Staria Load Electric and Ford E-Transit, spare wheels are exceedingly rare outside of commercial vehicles.

A space-saver spare can be found in the Hyundai Kona Electric and GWM Ora 5, while the Chery E5 uniquely offers a full-size spare.

The Trailseeker's spare is only a space-saver, and it's not standard either. Instead, it's a $1145 option, available for both newly ordered vehicles and examples already delivered to customers.

Pre-orders are open now through Subaru's retail network, with fitment scheduled prior to Christmas 2026. The spare will be positioned underneath the boot floor.

Subaru has also opened pre-orders for a Genuine Subaru Australia Towbar for the Trailseeker, priced at $1189.59. Fitment is also scheduled before Christmas.

This will allow buyers to take advantage of a braked towing capacity of 1500kg and an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.

The new options join a range of accessories already available, including everything from awning kits to dog hammocks.

"What we're hearing from customers is that Trailseeker offers something genuinely different. They love the idea of an EV that still feels ready for a weekend away, a road trip or an adventure beyond the city limits,” said Blair Read, managing director of Subaru distributor Inchcape Australasia.

“With up to 533km of driving range, all-wheel drive capability and now the option of a spare wheel kit and towbar, Trailseeker is even better equipped for the way Australians like to travel and live. It's proof that Australian drivers don't have to compromise on capability to enjoy the benefits of electric driving."

The Trailseeker was launched here earlier this year as a larger, more wagon-like sibling to the Solterra. These models are twinned with the Toyota bZ4X Touring and bZ4X, respectively – neither of which are offered with a spare wheel. However, both Toyotas can be optioned with a tow bar.

Offered exclusively with a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain producing 280kW of power, the Trailseeker has 211mm of ground clearance – down just 9mm on the petrol-powered Outback – and selectable Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive modes.
