The Rimac Nevera has just become the world’s fastest electric production vehicle, setting a top speed of 412 km/h at the Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany.

    On the record-breaking run, the Nevera was put into its top-speed drive mode which creates “an aerodynamic profile that balances drag and downforce to ensure stability at high speed.”

    Driving the Nevera at lightning speed was Rimac’s chief testing and development driver Miro Zrnčević, with a Racelogic V-Box on board to verify the top speed.

    “To travel at 412 km/h, or 258 mph, means travelling at a third of the speed of sound,” said Mr Zrnčević.

    “Simply achieving that alone in a road car is incredibly complex, but in Nevera we have created a car that can travel long distances on a single charge, can tackle tight and twisting race tracks and can drift as well as break straight-line speed records, both for acceleration and V-MAX.”

    The Automotive Testing Papenburg track is an oval with two 4km straights long enough to allow constant acceleration.

    The car was reportedly travelling around the banking at 250 km/h before the Nevera’s full power was released to launch the car to 412 km/h.

    The Nevera was not modified from its production specification and was fitted with Michelin Cup 2R tires, the state of which was monitored by a Michelin technician.

    Rimac is clearly aiming for the record books with the Nevera, as this record follows a previously recorded 8.582-second quarter mile (400m) run set in 2021, which made it the world’s fastest-accelerating production car.

    This 412 km/h top speed wasn’t exactly unexpected – it was the exact target set by Rimac when the Nevera was first unveiled in 2018 and it has reportedly taken 1.6 million collective hours of development to see the top speed verified.

    However, the Nevera which is delivered to customers will be limited to a top speed of 352 km/h, and will only be allowed to reach the 412 km/h maximum in “special customer events with the support from the Rimac team and under controlled conditions.”

    The Rimac Nevera delivers 1408kW of power and 2360Nm of torque through four electric motors, paired with a Rimac-designed 120kWh lithium-manganese-nickel battery.

    The official 0-100 km/h time is 1.85 seconds.

    Only 150 units of the €2 million (AU$3.09 million) Nevera are planned for production, all of which are already spoken for.

    Production of the Nevera is taking place in Rimac’s home in Zagreb, Croatia, and deliveries have already begun, with former Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg receiving the first unit.
