MG Australia slashes prices across its range

MG Motor Australia has taken a knife to the prices of its petrol and plug-in hybrid models.

From April 1, 2024, all petrol and hybrid models bar the MG 5 have received a reduction in nationwide drive-away pricing, with the price cuts ranging between $1000 and $6000.

MG qualifies this by saying the price cuts apply to model year 2023 vehicles or, in the case of the MG HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid, model year 2022 vehicles.

The largest price cuts apply to members of the mid-sized HS crossover range, with the Vibe down by $3000, the Excite by $4000, and the Essence by $5000, with both Plus EV plug-in hybrids’ price tags slashed by $5300 and the all-wheel drive Essence X down by $6000.

MG 3 models are all down by $1000 ahead of the launch of a pricier replacement in July, while ZS and ZST models are down by between $1000 and $2500.

In addition to a new MG 3, the Chinese brand will launch a new generation of HS this year.

“MG is putting customers first by ensuring everyone can access a wide range of affordable vehicles thanks to reduced nationwide drive-away pricing on our most popular models,” said MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao.

“Whenever we can pass price reductions like this onto our customers, we will make sure we do.”

The pricing adjustments to petrol and hybrid models follow the introduction on March 22 of nationwide drive-away pricing for all electric MG 4 and ZS EV models.

With both EV ranges now opening at $39,990 drive-away, MG once again has the cheapest EV… at least in some states. The BYD Dolphin still undercuts its electric Chinese rival in the ACT and Northern Territory.
