You might expect – if not hope – your car’s engine could catch fire at some point, but we’ll hazard a guess and assume you’ve never worried its tail light could catch fire.

That’s precisely what happened to the owner of a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse in Florida.

The owner took to Instagram to share a video of flames pouring out of the large crossover’s left tail light.

“I was just driving down the street coming home from work and smelled burning, so I pulled over thinking I was maybe getting a flat tire,” said Instagram user theclaycache.

“When I got out of my car I saw this! And to top it all off my warranty isn’t covering the fire damage caused by [General Motors’] faulty electrical [sic].”

They said after they pulled over and saw the fire, a passer-by came and smothered the fire as fire trucks arrived.

The owner tagged General Motors and Chevrolet in their post, calling for their car’s paint to be fixed after it got scorched.

They said they were told their extended warranty didn’t cover this, even though it covered the replacement tail light.

The company responded in the comments of the post asking for more details from the owner, but it’s unclear if they have subsequently offered to fix the paint.
