The Lexus LX has been recalled to address a potential issue with its 10-speed automatic transmission that could lead to a vehicle fire.
“The impacted Lexus LX vehicles are equipped with a 10‑speed automatic transmission that uses linear solenoids to control gear shifts,” Lexus Australia says in its recall notice.
“If a solenoid fails under certain conditions, the Transmission ECT-ECU may not communicate the fault to the Engine ECU, causing the transmission to over‑rev in certain gears.

“This can damage the transmission, cause a loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds, and in some cases may cause fluid leaks that make contact with hot exhaust components.
“These conditions may increase the risk of a collision or fire, which could also increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”
Lexus Australia warns there are no symptoms or warnings that this condition has occurred, and therefore advises owners to take their LXs to a dealership as soon as possible for rectification.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Lexus dealer to have the Transmission ECT-ECU software reprogrammed, free of charge.
This will take approximately 30 minutes to perform, though Lexus advises you may need to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time depending on the dealer’s work schedule.
If you have any further questions, you can contact your preferred Lexus dealer or the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009, on weekdays between 8:00am and 6:00pm AEDT.
