The upward march of Kia, once Korea’s clear number-two brand behind its Hyundai stakeholder, continued in earnest during June 2022.
The company finished in second spot for the month with 8480 sales, and topped its all-time monthly market share tally – netting 8.5 per cent of the total industry.
Its sales figure put it ahead of Hyundai in third (8259), Mazda (6245, as supply woes bite), and Mitsubishi (5846).
In an overall market down nearly 10 per cent for the month, Kia grew its sales 7.5 per cent.

It also took the silver medal for total quarter-two sales, though it sits fourth year-to-date – behind Toyota, Mazda and Mitsubishi but ahead of Hyundai.
To be a fly on the wall at Hyundai Australia HQ…
Kia’s result comes despite ongoing stock shortages on key models – something affecting all car brands right now, in fairness – meaning many of these sales were fulfilling existing orders.
Highlights for the brand included new sales records for Carnival (1101 units) and Sportage (2044). It also topped the Micro, People Mover, and Large Car segments.

The June result was made more impressive considering core models such as Picanto (down 91 per cent), Cerato (down 41 per cent) and Seltos (down 8 per cent) all turned in shockers.
