GWM’s new electric hatchback has earned a five-star rating from ANCAP, following the same result from sister authority Euro NCAP last year.
The GWM Ora – known in other markets as the Good Cat or Funky Cat – received an adult occupant protection rating of 92 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 84 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 74 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 93 per cent.
The Ora arrives in Australia in April, with a sportier-looking GT following later in the year. The five-star rating applies to all variants.

Standard safety equipment across the Ora range includes:

The test report shows almost entirely Good ratings for the Ora’s active safety equipment, though chest protection for the driver and head protection for a six-year old in the rear seat was deemed Marginal in the frontal offset crash test.
Chest protection for the rear passenger in the full-width frontal test also received the same rating.
Euro NCAP noted last year that Chinese manufacturers have largely been performing better in safety testing, pointing to five-star ratings for brands like MG, Geely-owned Lynk & Co, and EV manufacturer Nio.

“We’ve seen good results from some Chinese manufacturers in the past, but also some very poor ones,” said Euro NCAP secretary general Michiel van Ratingen.
“This year, Euro NCAP will test more Chinese cars than it has ever done and Great Wall really sets the standard for others to follow.”
In Australia, the GWM Haval H6 and Tank 300 received a five-star rating under the 2020-22 test protocols, with GWM Ute models built after August 2021 also getting a five-star rating.
