Ford Australia extends new-car warranty to seven years

Ford Australia has introduced a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty across its entire new-vehicle lineup, including its Ford Ranger and Transit commercial vehicle ranges, effective from September 1, 2026.

The coverage extends Ford’s previous five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, introduced in 2018, and applies to both private and commercial users.

The seven-year term is contingent on owners having their vehicles serviced within Ford’s dealer network.

“All customers, all nameplates – a strong statement to our customers that we have their backs now for even longer,” Ford Customer Service Division director Greg Davidson said at an event in Melbourne.

“This is about deepening trust and loyalty with our customers, and it gives Ford owners real confidence – not just in the vehicle they bought, but in the brand they’ve bought into.”

High-voltage batteries in electric vehicles, such as the newly announced Transit City electric van set to arrive later this year, and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) such as the Ford Bronco Basecamp due in local showrooms in the second half of 2027, remain covered by an eight-year/160,000km warranty, whichever occurs first.

The move brings Ford Australia into line with brands including Hyundai, Skoda, Geely and Kia on headline warranty coverage, although some of those brands impose kilometre limits or exclusions on vehicles used for certain commercial purposes.

Ford’s new warranty applies to commercial users without a kilometre cap, unlike rivals such as Chery, which limits coverage for some commercial applications to seven years/150,000km instead of the seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty offered for privately used vehicles.

Ford Australia said more than half the vehicles it sells locally are purchased using an Australian Business Number (ABN). It has 220 service centres in Australia and a further 55 in New Zealand.

Ford’s coverage still remains shorter than the eight-year warranty offered by GAC and Chery-owned Omoda Jaecoo, while several brands offer warranties of up to 10 years.

Nissan offers a standard five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, extendable to 10 years/300,000km when a vehicle is serviced within its dealer network, the longest warranty of all Australian automakers.

MG offers a 10-year/250,000km warranty for privately used vehicles serviced within its dealer network, but this is reduced to seven years/200,000km for commercial models.

Mitsubishi also offers up to 10 years/200,000km of coverage – double the duration and distance of its standard warranty – when vehicles are serviced within its dealer network.

Ford also announced its Ford Pro ‘ecosystem’ for commercial customers, bringing together accessories, mobile vehicle servicing, fleet-management services and finance options under the one banner.

It follows the Ford Pro Convertor program launched in October 2025, which connects customers with Ford-approved convertors that can produce bespoke vehicle conversions, including trays and vehicle bodies.
