The flagship performance variant of the upcoming BMW i5 Touring electric wagon has been teased online by the German carmaker, just weeks before its official unveiling.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, BMW’s M performance division showed off the silhouette of the i5 M60 Touring, highlighting minor differences between it and non-M versions.

The i5 M60 Touring is expected to mirror its sedan sibling by adding a range of BMW M’s performance parts to its body and under the skin, complementing its dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain which produces 442kW and 820Nm in the four-door offering.

While the i5 M60 Touring would normally be expected to sit as the range-topping long-roof offering, BMW has confirmed the high-performance M5 will spawn a wagon version later this year, powered by a hybrid V8 powertrain.

Previous reports have said the i5 Touring will be uncovered between March and May 2024, though specialist publication BMW Blog claims the electric wagon could be revealed as early as late February.

Recent spy photos have shown the BMW i5 M60 Touring being tested at the Nürburgring in Germany, with the carmaker putting its new wagon to the test at the car industry’s long-serving proving ground.

BMW Australia is yet to confirm whether the i5 Touring and 5 Series Touring will be sold locally, as the previous-generation 5 wagon was axed from showrooms in 2020 – albeit retained for select police forces across the country.

The BMW 5 Series and i5 sedan arrived in Australian showrooms at the end of 2024.
