Details of the Australia-bound Geely EX2 electric hatchback have been uncovered for the first time in government filings, ahead of its scheduled launch in the coming months.

Set to launch here in the third quarter (July-September) of 2026, government filings have revealed key details of the EX2 ahead of official pricing and specification announcements from Geely.

The EX2 will join the electric EX5 and plug-in hybrid Starray EM-i mid-size SUVs already in Geely Australia showrooms, with all three underpinned by the same Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA).

It will be the first of six new Geely models planned for Australia by 2028 after the brand launched locally in March 2025.

The five-door EX2 electric vehicle (EV) – China's best-selling vehicle outright last year with 465,775 sales – is expected to cost around $30,000 and take on the BYD Dolphin and new MG 4 EV Urban electric hatchbacks.

The filings show the entry-level EX2 will use a 60kW single electric motor driving the rear wheels, while the rest of the lineup will be fitted with a more powerful 85kW version. All models will be rear-wheel drive.

This appears to match the powertrains offered in Chinese-market models.

Although battery sizes haven't been specified for Australia, a 58kW/110Nm version sold in China is fitted with a 30.12kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a claimed driving range of 310km (CLTC).

Similarly, the 85kW/150Nm version sold in China uses a 40.16kWh battery with a claimed driving range of 410km (CLTC) on a single charge.

Further details contained in the Australian government filings show 16-inch wheels with 205/60 tyres and four-wheel disc brakes, again matching Chinese-market specifications. The EX2 also features multi-link rear suspension and a battery safety shield.

Key dimensions for all Australian models include a length of 4135mm, width of 1805mm and height of 1580mm, with the EX2 riding on a 2645mm wheelbase.

For comparison, the Dolphin currently sold by BYD Australia measures 4290mm long, 1770mm wide and 1570mm high, with a 2700mm wheelbase.

Chinese-market models come with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen in entry-level grades, the latter increasing to 14.6 inches in higher-spec variants.

Geely Australia has enjoyed rapid sales growth in 2026, with 7463 vehicles sold between January and May – outselling Honda, Omoda Jaecoo and Suzuki – despite offering only two models.

The EX2 will be looking to take sales from the BYD Dolphin, which recorded 1670 sales to the end of May 2026 in Australia, and the MG 4, which led the segment with 2118 deliveries.

The MG recently gained a more affordable showroom-mate in the front-wheel drive MG 4 EV Urban, while the GAC Aion UT also recently entered this segment, and the Chery Q is due here next year.

EVs achieved a record market share in May 2026, accounting for 19.9 per cent of all new vehicle sales – almost one in five – following record fuel prices across the country.
