Australian-market Ram 1500 pickups caught up in global recall affecting 1.5 million vehicles

Ram Trucks Australia has confirmed the country's best-selling full-size pickup, the Ram 1500, will be affected by a global recall covering more than 1.5 million vehicles.

Stellantis, which owns the Ram brand, issued a recall notice in the US earlier this week over a seatbelt issue affecting an estimated 1,271,294 vehicles sold there.

"Some 2019-2026 Ram 1500 vehicles may have been built with a second-row centre and/or second-row driver-side seat belt buckle anchor that was not properly attached to the vehicle body structure," the Stellantis statement said.

"In certain collision scenarios, this condition could affect the performance of the second-row seat belt system and increase the risk of injury to occupants."

Ateco Australia has confirmed about 800 vehicles will be affected, issuing a statement to CarExpert ahead of an official recall notice.

"Ram Trucks Australia will recall approximately 800 examples of MY25 and MY26 Ram 1500 vehicles built since June 2025 to inspect the rear seatbelts, following the announcement of a recall campaign in the US," the company said.

"Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ram Trucks Australia and/or their local Ram dealer for the vehicle to be inspected. Any rectification work required under the recall will be carried out free of charge.

"The 20,000-plus Ram 1500 vehicles remanufactured and sold locally since 2018 – outside of this recent production period – are unaffected by this recall."

The original Stellantis statement said the recall affects up to 156,138 vehicles in Canada, 15,088 in Mexico, and 74,084 in unspecified markets outside of North America, bringing the global total to an estimated 1,516,604 vehicles.

The Ram 1500 has been Australia's best-selling full-size pickup for the past eight consecutive years, outselling the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra.

Built at Stellantis' Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, the Ram 1500 is remanufactured into right-hand drive for Australia by Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Melbourne, where the Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra also undergo local conversion.
