The Suzuki Jimny has been available locally in a range of colours but one simple shade has been missing – until now.
The popular and supply-restricted Jimny off-roader is now available in Australia with a black exterior paint option.
Suzuki Australia says it has received a huge amount of requests for black paint since the current-generation Jimny launched locally in early 2019.
It has also apparently seen an immediate uptick in enquiries since initially teasing it on its social media early last week.
Despite healthier stock levels of the Jimny, supply still outstrips demand which makes wait-lists an ongoing factor.
Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota recently said average wait times for the Jimny are around 6-8 months, depending on the dealer.
The Japanese automaker delivered a total of 2564 Jimny models across the first half of this year, up 75 per cent on the same period in 2021, at an average of around 430 each month.
Orders for the single-tone Bluish Black Pearl paint option are open now at Suzuki dealers and it costs an additional $695. It’s available on both the Jimny and Jimny Lite.
The single-tone Bluish Black Pearl paint option has been available in other markets since the current generation’s launch, but Australia has gone without – though various colours have been available with a Bluish Black Pearl roof.
The only other exterior paint colour available elsewhere but not in Australia is Silky Silver Metallic.
The 2022 Suzuki Jimny range is now available in the following exterior paint options:
- White
- Bluish Black Pearl (+$695) (NEW)
- Medium Grey (+$695)
- Jungle Green (+$695)
- Brisk Blue Metallic & Bluish Black Pearl two-tone (+$1295)
- Kinetic Yellow Metallic & Bluish Black Pearl two-tone (+$1295)
- Chiffon Ivory Metallic & Bluish Black Pearl two-tone (+$1295)
Suzuki hasn’t announced any other updates to the Jimny locally.
The 2022 Suzuki Jimny range starts at $28,490 before on-road costs for the Jimny Lite manual and extends to $31,490 before on-road costs for the Jimny automatic.
Both are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 75kW of power and 130Nm of torque with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
They measure just 3645mm long yet have 210mm of ground clearance, part-time 4×4 with a low-range transfer case, as well as rigid axles front and rear with three linkages per axle.
While not confirmed for Australia, a long-anticipated five-door version of the Jimny is drawing closer to an expected launch in either late 2022 or early 2023.
