The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe range is growing in Australia.
The front-wheel drive, four-door coupe goes head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan. The 220i slots above the base 218i, and subs its three-cylinder petrol engine for a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo unit making 141kW and 280Nm.
Power is put to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
It’s good for a 7.2-second sprint to 100km/h, making the 220i a full 1.5 seconds faster to 100km/h than the 218i.
The range is still topped by the M235i Gran Coupe, which has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 225kW and 450Nm, and all-wheel drive.
Equipment matches that of the base 218i, which means the car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, and wears the M Sport exterior package as standard.
The cabin is home to sport seats trimmed in cloth and faux leather, and packs the latest BMW OS7.0 infotainment system with two 10.25-inch displays.
Forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and speed limit information are included as part of the Driving Assistant package.
Wireless Apple CarPlay will be standard as well, as part of the Connected Package Professional.
