Interested in a Peugeot 308?

Choosing a Peugeot 308 just got a whole lot simpler.

For 2020, Peugeot has cut the 308 range down to three variants, each with the same turbocharged three-cylinder engine.

It’s farewell to the GTI hot hatch and its crackerjack 200kW turbocharged four. Gone, too, are the 308 GT warm hatch and its 165kW turbo four.

Peugeot cites “tightening emissions standards” as the reason for the GT’s discontinuation.

There’s no reason given for the GTI’s departure but the lack of an automatic transmission option can’t have done the punchier Pug any favours.

The GT and GTI follow the diesel 308 and base Active variants out the door.

The 308 range now comprises Allure hatch and wagon variants and a flagship GT-Line hatch.

The base Allure hatch is now priced at $31,490 drive-away, whereas last year’s model had a recommended drive-away price of $35,882.

Those looking for a sportier-looking 308 can opt for the GT-Line, added to the range late last year. In addition to niceties like a panoramic sunroof, it has a unique body kit. There are no performance enhancements, however.

    Safety

The Peugeot 308 has yet to be tested by ANCAP, though the independent safety authority published Euro NCAP results for the 308 back in 2014.

    A left-hand drive, diesel 308 received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP.

This rating was based on a frontal offset score of 14.82 out of 16, a side impact score of 16 out of 16, and whiplash protection and pedestrian protection scores of Good and Acceptable, respectively.

All 2020 Peugeot 308 models come standard with autonomous emergency braking with forward-collision warning, as well as lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, speed sign recognition, anti-lock brakes and front, front-side and curtain airbags.
