Zeekr 7X getting larger battery, range boost expected

The hot-selling Zeekr 7X is set to get a larger entry-level battery which could bring an increase in range for the popular mid-size electric SUV.

The Geely-owned premium brand has confirmed it will launch an updated 2027 Zeekr 7X in China during the fourth quarter (October to December) of this year.

This will bring unspecified new interior and exterior colours, as well as a larger 85kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery being referred to in China as a 'Golden Brick' battery.

However, we're still one update cycle behind China. We've contacted Zeekr Australia to confirm when the next update is due for the 7X locally, and what it'll bring.

The new-for-2027 battery is expected to replace the base 75kWh LFP battery, and reportedly has a lifespan of one million kilometres and 3500 charging cycles.

The 7X, launched in Australia late in 2025, is currently offered with a combination of the 75kWh battery and a 310kW/440Nm rear-mounted electric motor, with 480km of WLTP range.

Other 7X variants here use a 100kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery offering between 543km and 615km of WLTP range, with a choice of 310kW/440Nm single-motor and 475kW/710Nm dual-motor powertrains.

All are based on an 800V electrical system.

The Chinese-market 7X moved to a 900V system for the larger of its two batteries at essentially the same time the older 800V-equipped range was being launched here.

Currently, the Chinese-market 7X is offered with 75kWh and 103kWh batteries, with a 10-80 per cent charge taking 10.5 minutes in the former and 10 minutes in the latter. Chinese media reports DC charge rates of 420kW and 620kW, respectively.

In contrast, the 75kWh battery in Australian-delivered 7Xs has a 450kW DC charge rate and can be DC fast-charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 13 minutes, with the larger battery able to be charged at up to 420kW and taking 16 minutes to replenish from 10 to 80 per cent.

Not only did the Chinese-market 7X get an increase in charging rates, but it also received a bump in power. Rear-wheel drive 7Xs produce 370kW and 535Nm, with the dual-motor flagship pumping out 585kW and 812Nm.

The new base battery may come with a 900V electrical system, aligning it with the larger battery pack offered in China.

The 7X has kicked Zeekr sales into gear in Australia, and has quickly become one of the most popular medium electric SUVs in the country.

To the end of July, Zeekr has delivered 7424 examples in Australia, outselling every mid-size electric SUV bar the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Geely EX5. It's also the best-selling model in what the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) calls the SUV Medium Over $65k segment.
