2026 Zeekr 7X Long Range RWD review: Long-term introduction

A new bombshell enters the CarExpert villa!

Excuse the Love Island reference, but the Zeekr 7X is hot property right now, even if it's not right at the top of the VFACTS sales charts. With huge consumer interest online and anecdotally reported by Zeekr and its dealer network, the Chinese brand's mid-size electric SUV has certainly made a splash Down Under since it arrived here last October.

CarExpert has seen huge engagement and traffic on all things Zeekr and Zeekr 7X of late, so we decided to get our hands on one for a longer-term evaluation to see what all the fuss is about. Meet our new 2026 Zeekr 7X Long Range long-termer.

With a starting price just under $64,000 before on-road costs, the mid-spec 7X sits at a competitive price point to equivalent rivals, namely other 'Long Range' or 'Performance' electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y Premium Long Range AWD ($68,900 plus ORCs), BYD Sealion 7 Performance ($63,990), Kia EV5 Earth ($64,990), Cupra Tavascan Endurance ($66,490) and Skoda Enyaq 85 Sportline ($63,990 drive-away).

That's despite Zeekr being pitched as something of a premium brand, as opposed to a more mainstream proposition like its Geely parent company's namesake brand.

Over the few months we'll have the keys to the 7X, we want to get a better idea of what the Zeekr feels like in everyday driving, and find out if anything interesting pops like it would for customers during their initial months of ownership.

How much does the Zeekr 7X cost?

While the range starts from $57,900 plus on-road costs, the Long Range RWD were testing here with its larger battery bumps the sticker price to $63,900 plus on-roads and options.

Our test vehicle's Crystal White exterior paint adds $1500, as does the optional 'Black and Grey PU' interior treatment over the standard Black. As you see here, you're looking at $66,900 plus on-roads, or about $73,400 drive-away according to the Chinese brand's online configurator.

As noted in the intro, the 'Long Range' 7X is priced in the thick of the mid-size electric segment, amid competition from Tesla and other Chinese brands to more well-established manufacturers.

What's under the bonnet?

A frunk. Underneath its sleek sheetmetal, however, the 7X Long Range ups battery capacity from 75kWh to 100kWh (with NMC chemistry) compared to the base 'RWD', but retains a single-motor rear-wheel drive layout.

The Zeekr's 800V electrical architecture allows for DC fast-charging speeds of up to 420kW in this spec, but good luck finding an EV charging station in Australia capable of such speeds. At least you can make the most of the 350kW 'Ultra-Fast' network and the handful of 400kW stations dotted around the country, though.

With the added energy density, the 'targeted' WLTP driving range rises from 480km to 615km, though the 310kW/440Nm rear e-motor remains the same. The bigger battery appears to add only 20kg to the kerb mass (2265kg vs 2245kg).

Even the base Zeekr 7X comes comprehensively equipped, though the Long Range adds more than just a larger battery.

How much does the Zeekr 7X cost to run?

Zeekr Australia offers a five-year, unlimited-kilometre new-vehicle warranty with five years of roadside assistance thrown in, while the high-voltage battery and related EV componentry is warranted for eight years or 160,000km – with the battery's state-of-health (SoH) warranted for 70 per cent of its original capacity.

We're waiting to hear back from Zeekr Australia about updated service pricing plans for the 7X range. Previously, the brand has advertised a five-year plan costing $2385 for the dual-motor 7X Performance.

CarExpert's Take on the Zeekr 7X

Our extended time with the 7X will give us a pretty good indication of whether this Chinese EV is worthy of all the hype.

Early signs are good, but we're keen to live with it day-to-day over a few months, take it out for some longer journeys, and see how it goes after applying its first over-the-air software update.

It'll also be interesting to see whether Zeekr's 'targeted' WLTP range is achievable in the real world, as the 600km-plus claimed figure is among the best in its class.
